What should you do, if you discovered your kid has Learning Disabilities and Disorders?

Every time you go to McDonald’s, did you notice a small donation box placed next to the cashier? Most of us didn’t know the purpose of it and only a few people know that the donation goes to helping children in need. Today, I’m going to tell you what it is all about.

As a mother we wish to give our children unconditional love and the best environment for learning. It is very challenging for parents raising a special needs child. All children need love, encouragement, and support, and especially so for kids with learning disabilities, such positive reinforcement can help ensure that they emerge with a strong sense of self-worth, confidence, and determination to keep going even when things are tough.

Have you heard about Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC)? No you might not, neither did I before this.

It was established in Malaysia in February 1990 as a non-profit organisation and it is part of 300 RMHC Chapters worldwide. Their vision is to create, identify and support programs that will improve the well being of children in need in Malaysia through three main areas – Health, Education and Welfare.

There are 4 pillars of RMHC’s programs, which are: –
1) Ronald McDonald Gift of Smile– treatment for children with cleft lip and cleft palate
2)Ronald McDonald Sensory Room -centres for children with learning difficulties
3)Ronald McDonald Scholarship – provides opportunity for children from low-income families a chance to excel in their status.
4)Ronald Mcdonald House –PPUKM- a home away from home that provides comfort and strength for families & children seeking treatment.

All programs help to enrich the lives of needy children in Malaysia,

What interests me most is the Sensory Room. What is that you ask? The Sensory Room is a safe space for children who are intellectually and developmentally challenged – wholly funded by RMHC Malaysia, impressive!

Parents searching for ways to help their children with learning disabilities can send them to the Ronald McDonald Sensory Room. It is established by RMHC in 1999 for children with delayed mental development and are equipped with multi-sensory quotients from the UK to stimulate the five primary senses of Visual, Hearing, Touch, Smell and Taste in a trusted and relaxed atmosphere.

They have professional instructors and equipment that can help them learn without any difficulties. To date, more than 5000 children have benefited from more than 20 Ronald McDonald Sensory Rooms available nationwide.

To support the charity further, McDonald’s Malaysia is launching the distinctive red and white striped socks to signify McDonald’s Show Your Stripes campaign this year. You can lend a helping hand towards Malaysia’s children in need. Please help to spread the news to your friends and family to support the campaign by keeping November 7 free and head to the nearest McD for a pair of striped socks. Hurry!!
