Jacob has loved building since he was able to hold blocks. If I’m not mistaken his dad bought his first Lego set when he was 1 year old plus? Being a toddler boy, he is obsessed with cars. And planes. So he has always been building toys around that ‘boy category’. And I was very surprised when he was able to build those out of his Lego set!
Children should be exposed to different kind of props to help them develop different kind of skills. Especially motor skills. And building block is one of the ways to improve toddler’s fine motor skills. It helps with later stages of life such as drawing, writing, coloring and many more.
What are the benefits children can learn through building blocks? Personally I feel it can help with these below:
- Improve fine motor skills
- Expand creativity and imagination
- Problem solving
- Building confidence
- Self-expression
- Family bonding
With all the blocks we’ve had they are rather small in sizes hence Jacob hasn’t built anything big before. Until I discovered these life-size bricks.
You can tell how happy Jacob was when he received these two sets! And he couldn’t wait to jump into it and start building.
This 40 pieces set comes with an instruction booklet too! Can build x’mas tree, camel, dog and many more.
I really appreciate the simple instructions. Not difficult for Jacob at all!
They have bigger set as well! This is the 86 pieces Limited Edition set (only red & white blocks). I got the colorful 86 pieces too, but this set doesn’t come with instruction booklet. It is mainly for children to create anything by their wild imagination. This set comes with big roof and more bricks that could build a house, shelves, castle and many more.
And of course, we started with the simplest creation he can come up with. Robot! I wasn’t joking when I said it’s life sized! I like all the bright colors that come with the set. When Jacob builds he starts talking to himself like ‘red, add the blue one, where is yellow mommy?’
Massbricks are awesome! Each brick size is as big as my hands. With that size, whatever you build it will be very steady. Jacob asked for a bench so he can have his own ‘chair’. And here he is, posing with his new chair! Haha.
He even built a footrest for himself (my god this kid haha). I only showed him the bench sample from the box, told him to build a base layer and continue to stack up to his preferred height, and taaadaa!
Next, we decided to build a difficult one. I had hard time figuring out how to make the ‘house’ with the roof too. We basically built the bottom layer first, then worked on the roof and joined the two parts. But Jacob was so happy!
‘Mama look at my house!’
But through this, I learned that Jacob was confident with his ideas. He was able to organize his steps on the building process and I was pretty impressed! Seeing the house as big as him, I could see his satisfaction on the structure too.
Being a contractor I must check the inside. – said Jacob
Happy kid in his happy house 🙂
What’s the fun without baby Sophie right? Poor girl hasn’t been feeling very well because she’s teething now. So I told Jacob let’s build something for Mei Mei. And we settled with a playground for her!
Helping Jacob with the base layer, basically to set the compound.
And let him continue to build it up the way he likes it.
Finally, Sophie joined the fun!
So happy to see the both of them enjoying this! It did cheer up Sophie for the day too! She gets to move around and I didn’t have to fear if she crawls somewhere else haha. And I think this playground is their now their favorite hang out spot already haha.
Massbricks provide endless possibilities and most importantly, I enjoyed the whole afternoon with Jacob and Sophie. Keeping them busy for a good few hours can put them to sleep happily at night too. I think Massbricks is amazing!
